Radio Sailing
Pequot Yacht Club enjoys a rich heritage of sailboat racing on all scales—from large keelboats to dinghies and even radio-controlled racing yachts. Pequot’s radio sailing program was originally built upon the Independence Class one-design sloop, a sanctioned American Model Yachting Association (AMYA) class boat measuring 43 inches in length. The fleet was hand-built by our members nearly 20 years ago and has been meticulously maintained by our in-house master shipwright ever since.
In 2026, Pequot's radio sailing program was reinvigorated with a rapidly-growing fleet of privately-owned DragonFlite 95 RC sailboats. This sleek, lightweight design is optimized for high-performance sailing and durability. The DF95 is the fastest-growing RC one-design class in the country and affords our members expansive options for regional and national-level competition.
The DF95 fleet hosts three holiday regattas on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. The Radio Sailing fleet's long standing 4th of July “Hot Shot” Regatta has a rich history of attracting the club's strongest competitors across various fleets to duke it out in a scaled down one-design platform. Read the Notice of Race document if you plan to participate in these events.
Aside from formal regattas, Pequot’s One-Design Program hosts Radio Sailing fleet members for casual racing on Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, April through December. There has never been a better time to join the camaraderie of the Radio Sailing fleet! Prospective fleet members are always welcome to pilot our members' spare boats or watch the action.
